Saint Paul's State of Mind

Here is a copy of the Lyrics.

Saint Paul’s State Of Mind - Song
Written BY Brydie, Scarlett and Mrs T.

V1

Walking down Salisbury,
Just passed the dairy,
Opposite the gum tree,
Saint Paul’s cross is guiding me.

Buses in the bus bay,
‘Signs out’ teachers say,
Scooters coming my way,
Monday through till Friday.

Rubbish free - Hats on,
Cool Schools jacket on,
Lining up for bump now,
Playing on the playground.

Kotuku and Kea,
7 8 leader,
Top of the school yeah
Touch Tourney beat ya!

Downtown at Wellington,
Capital E, Observatory,
Amazing race, we bought our tea,
Te Papa was great to see.

Forest camp in Hanmer,
Winter woolies on ya,
Orienteering, mountain bikes,
Hanmer hot pools every night.

So many school trips,
Walking up Mt Robert,
Visiting the winery,
And McCashin’s brewery.

Leadership challenge,
Sporting and community,
Bronze gold or silver,
Scores are put together.

Chorus:
At Saint Paul’s, teaching us to walk tall from day 1,
Right now until we’re done,
Let’s hear it for Saint Paul’s,
We’d like to say a very big thank you,
To all who have been true,
Let’s hear it for Saint Paul’s.
(saint pauls, saint pauls, saint pauls)

V2
Teachers who have taught us,
Lets hear their names now,
Starting from the first day,
With Mrs Hampson.

Story nibble, sandpit,
Newspaper Puff-fish,
Mrs Moriarty,
Loved being arty,

On to Mrs Jeffries,
Stickers on the star tree,
Dressing up for book day,
Puppet had a birthday.

Mrs Ashley R.E,
Learning about Mary,
Taking home the teddy,
Having fun in Tui.

Music is the plan
Mr Phillips is the man
Bottom string third gap,
Now we can really rap.

Mr Lock for blu-tak,
Plasters and e-Tap,
Without him we’d never be,
the Saint Paul’s family.

Mr Dorman big boss,
Rubbish free lunch-box,
Short story writing,
Sports results from my team.

Mrs Hood and Thomas,
Teachers for the seniors,
So many memories,
Treasured in the heart of me.

Chorus:
At Saint Paul’s, teaching us to walk tall from day 1,
Right now until we’re done,
Let’s hear it for Saint Paul’s,
We’d like to say a very big thank you,
To all who have been true,
Let’s hear it for Saint Paul’s.
(saint pauls, saint pauls, saint pauls)

Times gone so fast
have to say we’ve had a blast!
See you later its been cool
Won’t forget my primary school....

Daffodil Day!

Tomorrow is daffodil day-a cause close to my heart right now- so tomorrow I have asked the children to bring in a $2 coin and to wear a daffodil.

As a school we are also saying that they can wear Mufti tomorrow to go with the parade headgear (Margaret Mahey Inspired).

I will be shouting morning tea for them too.

Thanks for your support with this.
I'm still waiting for the all clear- shouldn't be long now. Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for the messages!

Hi Kea Class,
I've just read all your comments this morning- Thank you so much! It was wonderful to hear from you! I'm glad you are all having a good time and you sound like you are working hard!

I am still radioactive! But not so much now - they arn't letting me back until next Thursday, but you will be in Mrs Wallace's capable hands until then. I feel ok- very tired. I am staying outside of Christchurch now, at my cousin's new home, at a place called Cust. It is really peaceful here, with beautiful views.

Thank you for all your kind thoughts- I feel energised!

I must go and have some breakfast!
Here are some photos that were taken at the winter tournament by a pro photographer- not of all the teams I'm afraid;

Keep writing, its great to hear from you
Much Love

See you Soon...

Hi Kea Class,
Just before I head to Christchurch I would like to congratulate all the winter tournament participators for their great effort and determination last week I was so proud of you all! Girls and Boys soccer teams although you had some tough games your commitment and courage was fantastic and your sportsmanship at the end was excellent, ( and commented upon by other teams)!
Netballers, just incredible skill, and again determination to do your best- and you were both so close to getting those trophies- maybe next time. You looked so skillful on the courts.
Volleyballers- words fail me! I have never seen such an exciting final! The fact you got there in the first place was reason enough to be incredibly proud, but that game is something that will stay with me for a long time- You were amazing and so unlucky not to take the trophy- it really could have gone either way! We really were up with the best of the area and you gave them a run for their money - that I don't think they were expecting- Just Awesome!!

This week you will have lots of fun, I'm sure,  with Mrs Wallace.

It is speech preparation week which will form part of your homework and i'm sure Mrs Wallace will be giving you some time in class too!
These are the subject areas you can choose from.

The topics this year are:
Hero and Heroines
Transport
A Vacation
A Special Place
Technology what does it mean for the future ?

The speeches are to be between 3-5 mins in length. Everyone is expected to write one and perform it to our class. One person from year 7 and 8 will go through to the school final, when I return.

Mrs Wallace has all the info regarding marking rubrics etc, which she will give you next week
Good Luck.

Don't forget Mathletics- 500 minimum!

See you soon
Mrs TXX

Biographical Writing

Biographical writing
Purpose:
To give an account of someone’s life

Structure:

!  Opening statement introduces the subject, and explains why he/she is known
!  Significant events are ordered chronologically
!  Closing statement explains how this person will be remembered, and sometimes gives the writer’s opinion

Language Features:
!  Refers to named individuals
!  Contains dates linked to specific events
!  Written in the past tense
!  Can include direct and indirect speech and quotes from other sources
!  Written in 3rd person
!  Includes time connectives to link ideas
!  Events are anecdotal in style (rather than lists of facts), and engage the reader

Use these links to read some examples of Olympic themed Biographies. See how many of the above listed features you can find and put examples into the table on the googledoc underneath.

NB- unfortunately some of these examples have used a list of facts at the end of them!! not the best way to end a bibliography) how could it be finished in a more interesting way to engage the reader - put your ideas on the googledoc.

Michael Phelps Biography
Sir Steve Redgrave
Usain Bolt

Quotes of Courage

We have chosen these quotes from War horse which we think illustrate courage from various characters in the book.

Use these to inspire the pictures you choose to illustrate your poster next week..

We’ll come out of this all right - don’t worry‘   (p46 Capt Nicholls to Joey)
“I want to join up and stay with him”  (p 28 Albert to man looking after horses)
“I’ll do everything I can”  (p30)
“He died leading the charge and you finished it for him”   (p47)
Each night we spent in the lines up to our hocks in freezing mud   (p90)
He pulled out his rifle and shot his mount before falling dead on the wire himself.
“I just hope I’m up for it when the time comes”  (p34 Capt. Nicholls talking to Joey)
“I can do anything now.  Fell like one of those nights in armour when I’m up on you”
But the squadron galloped inexorably through it all all towards the wire at the top of the hill and I went with him
His eyes told me all the pain he was suffering and I puled all the harder to enable him to ease up.
“Father” said Albert with resolution in his voice, “I’’ll train Joey but you must promise to never raise a stick
to him again”
As we waited for the bugle calls, the air was electric with anticipation
That night with the rain sheeting down relentlessly on our backs I stood over him as he lay down in the mud
“I’m just lending them to you, these are my horses.  They belong here “ (Emilie to Germans)
Like Topthorn before him he seemed to sense that I needed a continual reminder that he was with me
and protecting me.
But Albert was always with me and so I was never afraid of the guns anymore
“You’ve got the right spirit of a soldier young man”
I found Topthorn was always by me and would breather his courage into me and support me
... I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a man in a grey uniform, climbed out of the trenches
waving a white flag above his head”

War heroes we have researched

eg
Florence Nightingale was a truly amazing and inspirational nurse. She changed the face of nursing from an untrained career to a highly skilled profession. She was born on the 12th of may 1820 in Florence, Italy and was brought up in Derbyshire and Hampshire and was named after the place of her birth.

By Grace

Edith Cavell
Born 4th december 1865 in Norfolk, UK. Edith entered the nursing profession at the age of 20. She was a British nurse who moved to Belgium and was appointed matron at Berkendel medical institute in Brussels, 1907
By Sheena

Jack Simpson Kirkpatrick
Jack was born in 1892 in England he came from a family of eight children. When he was young he worked with donkeys, later he deserted a ship in australia when he heard of the war in Germany. He feared the Australian army would not let him join because he deserted his ship so he went under Jack Simpson and left off Kirkpatrick he was accepted.

By Riley

Charles Upham was born on 21 September 1908, full name:Charles Hazlitt Uphams. He's probably one of the most famous NZ soldier because he has earned 2vc {Victoria cross}

The Human Body

In class this term we have been looking at the human body and how it works. We have been doing many different activities that have  been really fun and we have really enjoyed taking part in them. We did an activity where you have to draw around a body and draw and label the organs inside. Here are some photos of the finished product.

We also did an activity called alpha ladder. We had 13 minutes to get a body part of each letter of the alphabet, we did this in our table groups. It was a competition to see who could get the most original words! Click this link to check it out.

Maths is Fun!

In Kea this term we have been doing lots of cool 'stations' for Maths.
We have been using the new iPad 2's for our learning. We go on multitouch math and math bingo where we have to work together to solve multiplication problems....

We have also been doing something called the Magic Mixer where you mix up all the numbers on the mixer and then you have to try to make the number in the middle with the numbers on the outside.
We also do a Place Value board which ,what we have to  is create a number on one side and do what it says on a bit of paper like +10 and +100 + 0.01 etc.

We also play fraction dominoes where you have to match up the fraction with the answer and that is what makes math time so much fun.

Welcome To you all!!

Hello Kea Class, and welcome to 2012!
A new location for year 7/8 but still the same exciting intermediate timetable ahead of us!
Wow what a lot of you there are. This year we start as 30 children. 5 of you are new- fantastic! Lets all ensure that we get to know each other very quickly.
As you can see the blog is very empty so we need to get things rolling as fast as we can. Last year in Whio class we managed 15,000+ views on our blog - I wonder if we can beat that this year?

Watch this space in the weeks that follow.
Encourage your families to view and use the blog to help with your learning.
I will be adding many website links as the weeks go by.
You will notice that there is already a homework page - unlucky!!
Make sure you visit this every week, and complete the tasks given.

Above all - work hard, and have fun- Its going to be an awesome year!
